  1. Anti-Racist Book Discussion Kits Available at Mansfield Public Library

    June 29, 2020, 4:00 PM - July 31, 2020, 8:00 PM @ Mansfield Public Library

Anti-Racist Book Discussion Kits available at Mansfield Public Library It’s difficult to meet in groups and discuss books during this time of social distancing. Our solution has been to create book discussion kits meant for small groups to use, such as a family or close friends -- whoever is in your social bubble. We have chosen the following books for discussion, and will have two kits for each title: • White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk about Racism by Robin DiAngelo • Stony the Road: Reconstruction, White Supremacy, and the Rise of Jim Crow by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. • So You Want to Talk about Race by Ijeoma Oluo • The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander • Tyler Johnson Was Here by Jay Coles • How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi Each kit includes six books and a discussion guide. They are loaned out for a month. Call the library for curbside pickup!

  2. Caryn Lin: Electric Violinist, Composer, Education Innovator Live Streaming program

    July 14, 2020, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM @ Live Streaming program

Join us for a Live Streaming Performance extraordinaire! Caryn Lin is a classically trained violinist who became an electric violinist, composer, educator, and music innovator. She is a one woman musical extravaganza who blends tradition and technology and in the process transforms sound! With her electric violin and the technology of looping and sound effects, on the spot recordings emerge. Layers of sound with deceptively simple melodies create music that is both other worldly and mesmerizing. Caryn finds influence in everything from baroque to rock. “Unlike the music defined by pure genre, Lin’s only limits are those her electric violin.” New York Post Check our calendar for additional information or call Peggy at McCarthyML@MansfieldCT.org
