We Have Great News!
The Senior Center will begin a phased-in reopening on Monday, May 3rd! We’ll start by offering small in-person groups, fitness classes and some services, all the details of which you’ll find listed on the following pages.
Because safety for everyone is our highest priority, we’ll be reopening slowly and with caution, following all of the requirements and best-practice recommendations set forth by the State. As the weeks pass and guidance evolves, we’ll continue to add more and more in-person activities over the next several months.
Here are some of the changes you’ll see when you return in May:
Reservations & Registrations: All classes, groups and activities will require reservations and/or pre-registration with payment at least 24 hours prior to the activity. This is necessary for contact tracing, as well as planning and coordinating room set-ups. Each activity will have a maximum attendance limit due to social distancing requirements, the size of the room and the activity.
Check-In and COVID Screening: Upon arrival at the Senior Center, all visitors will be required to check-in with Senior Center staff at the Reception Desk in the Lobby. Senior Center staff will keep records of everyone in the building throughout the day, as well as enter participation into MySeniorCenter at this time.
Each participant will be asked to self-certify that they are not and have not experienced COVID-19 symptoms, or been in contact with anyone who has or who has tested positive in the past 10 days. Anyone experiencing COVID-19 signs or symptoms, or who has been in contact with someone who has, will not be allowed to participate and will be asked to go home immediately.
Masks: Masks are mandatory regardless of vaccination status. If you are unable to wear a mask, please call Mary or Jordan at the Senior Center and we will try and make alternative arrangements for you to participate in programs or services virtually. Masks must be worn covering the nose and the mouth completely. We ask that you bring your own mask, but we will have a supply of disposable masks available if needed.
Social Distancing: Everyone is required to maintain a 6-foot social distance while at the Senior Center at all times. Tables and chairs for each activity will be set up accordingly, and we ask that you do not move the furniture during your group or activity.
Fitness Classes: Due to social distancing requirements, Fitness classes will be limited to 6 students per class. Participants are required to maintain 6 feet social distance while exercising and wear masks at all times.
Arts Classes and Art Studio: Participants in arts and crafts activities will be required to bring their own supplies (woodcarving knives, paints, brushes, knitting needles, yarn, etc.) and are not allowed to share materials.
Hand Sanitizer/Hand Washing: Hand sanitizer will be available in the entryways and in every room. Participants are asked to use the hand sanitizer upon entering and as needed throughout their stay.
Computers: Our public computer and printer are available for use by appointment. In addition, we have 2 IPads and 2 Chromebooks, all with internet connection, available to borrow in our new Technology Loan Program.
There are certain things we won’t be able to start up again just yet – card games, scrabble, Chorus, Maple Road Library, trips, Maple Road Café or TVCCA Lunches to name a few. We will not be offering coffee or tea at this time, and no food or drink is allowed to be shared in groups or activities. The water fountain is available, but only as a personal water bottle filling station. We will also wait a month or so until we bring back in-person volunteers. All of these things will come back when deemed safer and when we’re ready…but you can be sure we’ll be working to bring each of them back as soon as possible.
And, although we welcome you to participate, to stop in and say hi, or drop off a registration form, this is still not the time to visit or linger at the Center. We do plan to establish visiting times and/or a social hour in the coming weeks, but, for now, we ask that you just come for your service, group, activity or quick business. We know that it won’t be the same Senior Center you left over a year ago, but we’re so excited to welcome you back and rebuild our diverse programming to what it was, only better! Happy Spring, Everyone - we can’t wait to see you in our Center again!
