Bernie started lessons on the violin at the age of 12 and stopped once he got to high school. 36 years later, he picked it up again, this time at the Community School of the Arts in Mansfield where he has been a student of Ruth Shilling for more than 20 years. In addition to working on classical solo pieces, Bernie also plays chamber music in a quartet under Ruth’s guidance. Ruth has been very instrumental in guiding his development as a violinist and fiddler. After retiring from public school teaching, he expanded his playing repertoire from classical to traditional fiddling by joining the Quiet Corner Fiddlers, which he now leads.
